Defining the Capitol of Capitalism

In our complex global world with differing standards and reference frames, it is similarly hard to define one universal truth for what 'social responsibility' means. As the capitol of capitalism, how we define a sustainabile Washington DC will have an impact beyond the metro-area, beyond the country and perhaps to the world at large. If Washington is to have its name alongside 'Rio' and 'Kyoto' when people think about socially responsible business, then we must answer these fundamental questions.

  • For some, social responsibility is a path to success.
  • Others view it as 'giving back' once a certain level of finanical success has been attained.
  • Many believe passionately that companies are responsible for raising the bar on issues like human rights and wages.
  • Others feel this is a lack of respect for, and direct violation of local norms and customs.

The DCSBN is the forum to discuss these issues. Join us at a meeting, or here on our blog. We welcome all thoughts and opinions, as long as they are respectful of others and on the topic.
